NOBLE OAK
UI / UX / PRODUCT DESIGN
CONTEXT
Noble Oak is a storied direct life insurance company. Founded, run and well respected in their industry for embodying the principle of ‘doing the right thing’, they are highly awarded for providing fully underwritten insurance at low premiums, in their relentless pursuit of the protection of hard working Australians.
In 2023 they initiated a program of work intended to redesign and rebuild their online quote and application tools, in addition to the creation of a new clientportal.
In the 6 months between June and December of 2023 I worked for them in-house in a contract capacity as a Senior UI / UX Designer. Our cross-disciplinary product team made use of a lean agile environment and included remote external agency based designers, internationally based developers and an array of internal stakeholders ranging up to and including the executive leadership team.
We worked within a fast paced, highly complex, deadline driven environment balancing an array of ever shifting parameters - including but not limited to evolving operational factors, regulatory, technical and temporal constraints.
A delivery focused design approach saw me adapting my framework to the operational conditions and doing whatever was necessary on any given day to ensure the project moved in the right direction.
This included but was not limited to conducting workshops, facilitating internal meetings, hi-fidelity wire framing, prototyping, co-ordinating and synthesising user testing via an external vendor, facilitating and contributing to design review processes, directing a team of external designers, and playing results across all stages of the process back to stakeholders, taking feedback on board and using it to adjust the teams development approach as necessary.
Approval processes for every step of our project had to be presented to and have agreement from a significant segment of senior leadership that included the CEO, COO, CMO and Head of Sales.
OUTCOME
In a role that amounted to the function of a design lead who was on tools at all times, I strove diligently on site 5 days a week at their Sydney office to ensure Noble Oak achieved their intended outcome, and succeeded in that objective.
The outcome was the successful delivery all three products from the initial research and analytics that had been conducted, through a rigorous design process into build and QA, ready for launch to the public in January of 2024.
