COLES
UI/UX DESIGN

CONTEXT

During the last set of lockdowns in 2021, the Coles DDX team found themselves in an odd position. They had recently hired a number of Senior Product Designers on a permanent basis, who were due to join the company in coming months. In the immediate term however, the Crew Gold DSV team urgently needed assistance with an external Shopify based microsite that was rapidly progressing towards a build deadline, that had not yet had any UI work carried out whatsoever. Capacity across the business was stretched, and so a contractor was required to step in to assist.

Working completely remote from Sydney (the vast majority of stakeholders being based in Melbourne), I swiftly hit the ground running, establishing context and delivering a first round of mid-fidelity wireframes in Sketch, with a view to establishing whether or not these were an effective baseline in terms of what the team were after. They were. With only a small number of functional changes to make, I swiftly progressed to laying out the remainder of the site. Working collaboratively in an agile environment with a cross-disciplinary team to incorporate information architectural, content, user journey and operational changes, I got the wireframes through to build ready approval, and handed over to the external agency that was executing the build, in around two weeks.

From that point onwards, I began the process of handing the project over to the perm Product Designer who would be taking the reins from me, and assisting in review of the build from a UI/UX perspective, ensuring that the site would be sound for launch across a range of browsers and device types.
